Lutan Fyah (born Anthony Martin) is a Jamaican singer and deejay of the Bobo Shanti order, prolific through the 2000s and 2010s in both roots and dancehall settings. Angus Taylor hears "more of a deejay than a singer," one who "never over stretches his vocals."
He was born in Thompson Pen, Spanish Town, St. Catherine. His grandfather, Tamba, ran the Black I-niverse sound system. Martin studied architecture at the University of Technology and played football for Constant Spring FC before turning to music in 1999, and his first recordings were for Buju Banton's Gargamel label. He is sometimes credited as Lute and Fyah.
His first album, Dem No Know Demself, appeared on Minor7Flat5 in 2004, followed by Time & Place on Lustre Kings in 2005 and You Bring Blessings on Cousins in 2007. He guested on albums by Turbulence and Luciano and recorded for Jah Warrior in Britain. Life of a King, his tenth album, came in 2013 and was followed by European and African tours; Music Never Dies appeared in 2017, and later work includes Strength & Resilience for I Grade Records and releases through Easy Star. He has recorded with Anthony B, Chronixx, Lady G, Luciano and Rebelution, and founded the Youth Upliftment Foundation.
