Mortimer is a soul-inflected reggae singer and songwriter of the revival, a voice on Protoje's records whose debut album, From Within, was nominated for Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards in 2026. Gardy Stein calls him "one of the most emotive and versatile voices of Jamaican modern roots."
Born in Kingston and raised in Whitehall, St. Elizabeth, he sang in his church choir from the age of eight. His first project, the four-song Message Music, came out through VP in 2014. He sang "Protection," the opening track of Protoje's Ancient Future, produced by Winta James, and featured on "Truths & Rights" on Protoje's Grammy-nominated A Matter of Time; his own "Careful" (2018) came out through James's Overstand Entertainment, followed by "Lightning" (2019) and the EP Fight the Fight.
From Within was made with the veteran arranger and producer Clive Hunt among its team, and its nomination, his first, put him beside Lila Iké, Vybz Kartel, Keznamdi and Jesse Royal; "Art is not something we do," he said, "it's something we get to do."
